Sage's Story

Sage is a bright, loving, and curious six-year-old boy whose life took an unimaginable turn in February 2024. At just four years old, Sage was diagnosed with B-cell acute lymphoblastic leukemia (B-ALL). In that moment, everything we knew about normal childhood vanished. What should have been years filled with playgrounds, laughter, and friends became a fight for survival.
Since his diagnosis, Sage’s world has been confined to two places—home and the hospital. No preschool, no playdates, no family gatherings. He wears a mask every time he steps outside his “bubble.” Instead of learning ABCs and making crafts, Sage has learned medical terms no child should ever know. His tiny body has endured more than most adults could bear—countless treatments, physical changes, and the heartbreak of watching his hair fall out again and again.
Through it all, Sage remains a fighter. His spirit shines even on the hardest days, and he often encourages me to stay strong when my own strength falters. But he worries too—asking if his hair can grow “super long so the chemo won’t make it fall out.” Those words break my heart.
Holidays are especially hard. While other kids hunt Easter eggs or visit Santa, Sage watches from the sidelines, longing to join in. He feels the weight of missing out, and I see the disappointment in his eyes. At the end of the day, he’s just a little boy who wants to play, laugh, and live like any other child.
Despite everything, Sage’s curiosity and humor remain intact. He loves Mario video games, the color red, and—when he has the energy—playing his own version of tag. He’s fascinated by storms and loves throwing water balloons at the garage door, followed by bubble gun battles with Mom or Dad. He asks “why” and “how” about everything, because his mind is as bright as his smile.
This journey has been devastating, but Sage’s resilience inspires us every day. All we want is to give him joy, especially during the holidays. Your kindness can help make that possible. Thank you for bringing light to a little boy’s world that has been far too dark.
