Madeline 's Story

Although I wish I had better news to share, it has been a rough year for my family. Last year, a few days after Christmas, Madeline suffered brain toxicity from one of her chemo she was getting to treat her leukemia relapse. I hate to use the word disabled because I have hopes that a miracle will happen and she will come back to me like the perfect little girl she is, but she is currently disabled from the brain damage. She cannot eat, drink, walk, sit on her own, I have not heard her little voice since she stopped talking in December.

At the time she was admitted in December, her doctor told me that there was nothing more they could do for her and they stopped all treatment. If the cancer were to come back, they said it would cause death. Her life expectancy, they couldn't tell me if it would be weeks or months. I dedicate everyday with her and my son to be filled with joy. I cannot help but feel like my heart breaks a little more each day. I try hard to keep it together and smile, but it has been such a difficult journey, but blessed Madeline is still alive.

She is currently going to therapy and she has shown significant progress. She went from not being able to move at all, her body locked from the pain she was in, to being able to roll, move her arms and lift her head. I cried the day I was finally able to pick her up (like when you pick up a baby) and give her a hug. Although with assistance, she can now sit and keep her head up longer. Her therapist have been amazing and it makes my heart happy when they tell me she is improving with every session. Every morning I get to wake up with her looking at me smiling is a blessing.
