🌟 Colton: A Steady Light in the Storm

Being a Charleston Elf is more than a kind gesture—it is a commitment to providing a child the full holiday experience they deserve. While you are not required to purchase every single item on their wish list, the expectation is that each Elf provides the child with all of their holiday gifts. We understand that not everyone can take on that level of commitment alone and warmly encourage you to team up with friends, family, or coworkers who would like to make a meaningful impact as well.

Colton's Story

When Waylon was diagnosed with cancer, our whole world shifted—but through the chaos, one person quietly held us together: Colton. At just 17, he’s become a steady, compassionate presence in our family, stepping up in ways that go far beyond his years.
Whether it’s helping with his younger siblings, keeping us laughing during the hardest days, or simply being there with a calm, reassuring presence, Colton has shown a kind of strength that’s rare and beautiful. His heart is as big as his love for the outdoors, and we’re endlessly proud of the young man he’s become.

Waylon’s Journey Fighting Cancer:
Just after Christmas last year, our world turned upside down. My son Waylon, who was only 7 years old, began showing signs that something wasn’t right. Within days, we received the devastating news: Waylon had Medulloblastoma, a rare and aggressive form of brain cancer. That moment marked the beginning of a journey no child should ever have to face—but Waylon has met every challenge with courage, grit, and the biggest smile.
On January 3, 2025, Waylon underwent brain surgery to remove the tumor. The procedure left him with Posterior Fossa Syndrome, which took away his ability to speak, walk, and do the things he loved. Watching our sweet boy lose so much in an instant was heartbreaking.
In February, we traveled to Florida for proton radiation therapy. For 31 consecutive days, Waylon was sedated for treatment—an experience no child should have to endure. Yet he faced each day with bravery. Upon returning home, he began chemotherapy, which will continue through spring of 2026.
Despite everything, Waylon’s spirit remains unshaken. He’s worked tirelessly to regain his ability to walk (with help), talk, and care for himself. Today, he can read, write, and communicate again—and every milestone fills our hearts with pride. His laughter, determination, and resilience light up even our darkest days.
This journey has tested our family in every way—emotionally, physically, and financially. I’ve had to step away from full-time work to care for Waylon through treatments, hospital stays, and countless appointments. There are days spent traveling, nights filled with worry, and moments where faith is all we have to hold onto. But we continue forward, anchored by love and hope.
Thank you from the bottom of our hearts for blessing our family this Christmas. Your kindness means more than words can express. You’re helping make the holidays brighter for a little boy who has already overcome so much—and continues to fight with courage, faith, and the biggest smile.

With love and gratitude,
Ashley Chavis
