💔 Ava’s Fight: A Story of Courage and Love

Being a Charleston Elf is more than a kind gesture—it is a commitment to providing a child the full holiday experience they deserve. While you are not required to purchase every single item on their wish list, the expectation is that each Elf provides the child with all of their holiday gifts. We understand that not everyone can take on that level of commitment alone and warmly encourage you to team up with friends, family, or coworkers who would like to make a meaningful impact as well.

Ava's Story

Ava is an extraordinary 11-year-old girl with a heart full of kindness and creativity. Last March, our world changed forever when Ava was diagnosed with High-Risk B Cell Leukemia. Hearing those words was devastating—but Ava’s strength has been nothing short of inspiring.

Despite the countless challenges, Ava remains a bright light in our lives. She loves creating art, playing with her favorite toys, watching YouTube, and—most of all—making gifts for other children at St. Jude Children’s Hospital. One day, she told me, “I love giving presents to the other kids. It makes me so happy.” That simple statement says everything about who Ava is: selfless, loving, and determined to bring joy to others even while fighting her own battle.

Ava has two amazing siblings who adore her. Noah, 17, is a high school senior with dreams of becoming a firefighter. He’s protective, caring, and always looking out for his little sisters. Adalyn, who just turned 9, is our girly girl—she loves makeup, jewelry, and fashion, and she shines on stage with her local theater group. This journey has been incredibly hard on them too. Watching their sister go through this has been heartbreaking, but they’ve stood by her with courage and love.

Every week, we drive 206 miles round trip—sometimes multiple times—to Charleston for Ava’s treatments. The emotional and financial strain has been overwhelming. I (Vanessa) haven’t been able to work since the day Ava was diagnosed. Between the loss of income and mounting expenses, this year has tested us in ways we never imagined.
Yet through it all, we remain grateful. Grateful for Ava’s resilience. Grateful for the love and support that surrounds us. And grateful for you—because your generosity is helping us give our children a Christmas filled with hope and joy during the hardest season of our lives.

Thank you for blessing our family. Your kindness means more than words can ever express.
